CA Cell Phone Stores Must Recycle Phones
The Cell Phone Recycling Act was recently signed into law in California. Effective on July 1, 2006, this law will make it illegal for a wireless phone retailer to sell phones without a recycling service in place. Supporters of the law claim it is necessary to reduce waste from discarded cell phones and that it will reduce pollution in our soil and water.

Refurbished Phones

It is estimated that there are 130-150 million cell phones in the United States alone. On average, cell phone users upgrade their phones every 18-24 months. These upgrades result in an excess of unused, previously owned cell phones. Refurbished mobile phone manufacturers buy these used cell phones from people, fix them, and recondition them so that they appear to be new and are able to function properly. Thus, because they are used, refurbished phones are generally less expensive and more accessible to people who are looking for a current model phone without the expense.
